About

I’m Cara, a psychology doctoral intern (PsyD) on the path to becoming a licensed psychologist, and someone who’s deeply passionate about creating space for honest, human connection through education, personal stories, and intentional reflection. As I near the completion of my doctoral journey, I’m excited to share insights from my experiences, both as a therapist-in-training and as a person navigating the ups and downs of life, healing, and growth.

As a former athlete, lover of all things trendy, and a Swiftie at heart, I believe in living a full, connected life, and I aim to bring that balance of authenticity and expertise to everything I share here. I’ve always been an external processor and I believe in the power of learning out loud (essentially the definition of therapy…), which is why this space is all about opening up conversations about mental health, psychology, and the real-life stuff we don’t always talk about enough.

I’m not alone in this journey. One of my greatest supports and inspirations is my sister, Kayla. She’ll be a regular contributor on this blog, offering her unique voice and perspective on everything from grief and loss to personal growth and resilience. She is one of my closest friends, and I’m so proud to be able to share her words with you all.

Whether you’re here for professional insights, personal reflections, or both, I hope you’ll find something meaningful and true here. This blog is a space for learning, growing, and healing, and I’m so glad you’re here to join me, and my sister, on this journey.

The Sisters

Cara
The younger sister. The one with the big grin and dimples that show up before she even speaks. She has a way of making people feel at ease, of seeing them for who they are. Thoughtful and driven, she puts her whole heart into the things she cares about, and when she sets her mind to something, she follows through.

She’s just weeks away from earning her doctorate in counseling psychology, after five years of studying trauma, identity, connection, and healing, not just in theory, but through the stories of her clients, and the inner work she’s done herself. She used to spill her heart online like it was second nature. Now, she’s learning the beauty of discernment… of sharing from the scar, not the wound.

Kayla
She’s the quieter one, the thoughtful one, the one who makes you laugh without even trying. She moves through life with deep integrity and heart, grounded in honesty and shaped by both love and loss.

She pays attention to what’s said, and what isn’t. She’s not one to share, but when she does, it’s with care. She knows that sometimes, simply being there is enough. After facing a loss that forever changed her, she’s learning to share the quiet truths we often leave unspoken.

Welcome to Learning Out Loud, a blog ran by myself @carascammon and my sister, Kayla (@kazemiandco).

A space where education, reflection and real-life experience meet. Written by Cara, a psychology doctoral intern (and lifelong lover of people, Taylor Swift, and connection), this blog blends evidence-based insights with personal storytelling. Here, we honor the journey of growth. The messy, beautiful, human parts — and explore mental health with heart, humor, and honesty. You’ll also hear from guest writers, mostly Kayla, sharing their own sacred stories.

Thanks for being here. We’re learning out loud, together.
